So, you're on the fence about hiring a professional wedding videographer for your wedding day.
It's no secret that wedding videography is often one of the last items on people's list of things to look into when they begin planning their wedding. It's understandable. Wedding videography just isn't as popularized as wedding photography. DSLR and mirrorless cameras - as well as mics, drones, gimbals, etc. - didn't become good enough to capture these 4K cinematic videos until the last 10 years or so. But even now, after all these advancements, people still usually only consider hiring a videographer "if there's room in the budget." Well, let me persuade you that, besides getting engaged and picking a wedding date, choosing a professional wedding videographer should be at the top of the Wedding To Do list.
I'm often told by potential clients that they're on the fence about hiring a wedding videographer. Don't get me wrong, that's not something that offends me. However, I wanted to put together an organized list to get you off the fence and convinced that hiring a professional wedding videographer is one of the best and most important decisions you can make for your wedding day. Okay, let's get into it. I'll keep it short and sweet because it really is that simple.
1. Video has the ability to capture memories in a way that photos cannot.
If a picture is worth 1,000 words then what does that make a video worth? Add in audio and text and meaningful music and I feel like that puts a wedding video in the realm of priceless. Yes, wedding photos are wonderful and important, but I think we can all agree that video has this ability to capture genuine moments fully and truly as they are. It evokes authentic emotion and can be a breathtaking thing. We are in the era of video. Imagine not only getting to show your kids and grandkids photos from your wedding day, but also a beautiful cinematic film of it.
2. Video captures important details & slows it down.
Your wedding day will fly by. Take this from someone who was a bride and has also filmed countless weddings. It's just the reality of it. However, if you have a professional videographer capturing all of those moments, it creates a unique opportunity for you to look back on your wedding day and all of its details wherever and whenever you want. But without video, it will be close to impossible to do that.
3. You can share your video with the people that couldn't make it.
This is a big one, especially in light of Covid stuff. But it's even a big deal without Covid stuff. Most of the time, not everyone on your invite list will be able to make it to your wedding. But if you have a video from your day, then you can share it with them and they can still feel as though they were a part of it. Also, not to pull the kids and grandkids card again, but you have the chance to help them be a part of your wedding day years in the future. Modern technology is amazing. Take advantage of it.
4. Listening back on the audio.
Hearing the voice and words of your husband/wife from your wedding day twenty years from now? Actually listening to them speak those vows to you again? That's crazy that you could be able to do that. And priceless. I mean come on, why would you pass up on that?
5. Hiring a professional will ensure a beautiful end product.
This point focuses more on the professional part of hiring a professional wedding videographer. I had a good friend film my wedding. She did an amazing job and I love what she captured. To this day, I'm still so appreciative for what she did for me. However, at the time she was not a professional wedding videographer (she later became one). Because of that we did not get some of the classic audio and visual shots that you might expect to be in your wedding video. If you want the best product, hire someone who has the gear and experience to make that happen. Uncle Jim will not create a cinematic video for you. I'm sorry, he just won't. And neither will an iPhone.
If you're still not convinced, ask anyone who has gotten married and they will probably yell "JUST DO IT!" at you. Take it from one of my past brides:
"The best decision of our wedding planning process was, without a doubt, choosing Soersha to make our wedding video. To begin with, we thought wedding videography wasn't a necessity, but rather, something to "splurge" on. Now, it is my favorite keepsake of my wedding day and I wouldn't trade it for anything! Yes, we all know having a great photographer is key, but even the best photographer in the world can't replace the look/feel that video evokes... It truly brings you back to the moment and captures the emotions of your day in such a crazy cool way." - Madison Feuerstein
They say hindsight is 20/20 right? I have had countless friends and colleagues say to me that they wish they had hired a wedding videographer. Learn from their mistakes and don't skimp on one of the most important vendors for your wedding day. Your wedding video will be your favorite memento, trust me.
